The Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) is the cornerstone of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime. Ágora actively participates in the NPT review cycle, advocating for the fulfillment of Article VI disarmament obligations and meaningful youth engagement in nuclear governance.
The Three Pillars
Non-Proliferation
Non-nuclear-weapon states commit not to acquire nuclear weapons, while nuclear-weapon states commit not to transfer them. The IAEA safeguards system verifies compliance.
Disarmament
Article VI obligates all parties to pursue negotiations in good faith on nuclear disarmament. After 55+ years, nuclear-weapon states have failed to fulfill this obligation.
Peaceful Use
All parties have the right to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, with appropriate safeguards to prevent diversion to weapons programs.
